Within the Darkness is Light, With the Light the is Darkness, for one is the other self that makes humans' human.

Either 10 or 12. Both were great for me, but I lean towards 10 more. 10 has a more interesting story line haha.

You should be fine with FFX since its more traditional...in a sense. >_> FFXII is great however if you like more of an MMO feeling.

Though to be honest, I think you will enjoy Dragon Quest VIII on PS2.

And you shouldn't count your DS! The DS has 2 nice Final Fantasy remakes! FFIII and FFIV. Both games are great! Though a bit harder to most people's taste. However its still enjoyable.

since you have a ps2.. lemme suggest a few ps1 games..

I played FFVIII, but couldn't get past the second disc cause it was too scratched up. D:
